Web Programming – HTML5 and other Programming Languages for Web Design

There are lots of programming languages and learning all of them is impractical and impossible. Some of the most common programming languages when it comes to web design include Hypertext Markup Language or HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, and PHP programming. Some are used with other languages to create a static or interactive website. Learn more about the common programming languages used by web design companies.

PHP Programming

PHP programming is the server side language, which means that it is read by the server instead of by the browser. The server will process the web page before it is delivered to the user’s browser. The PHP code can be placed inside the HTML document or as a stand-alone file. But no matter how the PHP code is implemented in the web design, the server is required to have the latest version of the PHP platform. The best thing about PHP is that it is an open-source scripting language, which makes creating websites and apps much easier.

HTML5

HTML5 is the latest version of Hypertext Markup Language. It is the most common programming language used to create websites. It is known as a markup language that is distinguished by markup tags. The tags are keywords inside brackets. When they are used, they produce specific output in the user’s browser. There are hundreds of markup tags, and they all have different uses. Some of the most used markup tags are that opens the HTML documents; or the main portion of the document that contains the content of the web page; and

or the start of a new paragraph. There are programs that can help create HTML code, but experienced designers can use a simple text editor to modify websites.

CSS

Cascading Style Sheet or CSS is a complementary programming language that aids in the design of the web page. The CSS styles are often placed in a separate CSS file that is then linked to the html or php document. Or the CSS styles can be inserted directly between the tags of the HTML5 document. Using CSS is useful because it lets the web designer modify the HTML elements on a page without the need to change individual codes of each element. Through Cascading Style Sheets, the designer saves time and allows you to test new designs right away.

JavaScript

JavaScript is similar to traditional computer programming languages. It allows users to perform certain actions on a web page and interact with its content. It is a scripting language that utilizes function calls. It is browser based which means it coincide along with HTML; it does not need to make a call to the server such as PHP to execute. It also supports object-oriented elements. Developers also use JavaScript outside websites, such as PDF documents. You should not confuse JavaScript with Java. They are two different programming languages. JavaScript is much smaller than Java and has a more simplified set of commands that makes coding easier. JavaScript doesn’t need to be compiled as well.
